What's Urethane Casting Process?
Vacuum casting is a practical process for producing prototype and low-volume plastic parts with production-like appearance and function. It is well suited for design validation, market testing, and small-batch production where fast turnaround and lower tooling cost are important.
1.Create the Master Pattern
A master pattern is first made from the 3D design, usually by CNC machining or 3D printing. This master defines the shape, surface details, and overall quality of the final cast parts.
2.Make the Silicone Mold
Liquid silicone is poured around the master pattern to create a flexible mold. Once cured, the mold is opened and the master is removed, leaving a cavity ready for casting.
3.Cast the Parts Under Vacuum
Polyurethane resin is mixed and poured into the silicone mold under vacuum conditions. This helps reduce air bubbles and improves part quality, especially for detailed features.
4.Cure and Demold
After casting, the resin is cured until the part is fully formed. The part is then removed from the mold and prepared for the next processing step.
5.Finish and Inspect
The cast part is trimmed, polished, painted, or otherwise finished as required. Final inspection helps confirm appearance, fit, and functional requirements before delivery.
Vacuum Casting Materials
Shore A 10-60 Silicone
Commonly used for vacuum casting molds, this silicone range offers different levels of flexibility to suit different part geometries. Softer grades are better for complex shapes and undercuts, while higher Shore hardness provides better stiffness for more rigid part designs.
- Shore A 10–20: Very soft, highly flexible
- Shore A 30–40: Balanced flexibility and mold support
- Shore A 50–60: Better stiffness for rigid part designs

Custom Vacuum Casting Parts Made By Jizao
Drawing-Based Quality Assurance
Every project is reviewed and produced according to the approved drawing and order requirements. Before shipment, parts go through final inspection to confirm that critical dimensions, features, and overall quality meet specification. We do not knowingly ship parts that do not meet drawing requirements.
Inspection Reports Available Before Shipment
According to customer requirements, JIZAO can provide inspection reports before shipment to support verification and traceability. Depending on the project, this may include dimensional inspection records, measurement data, or other agreed quality documents prepared before delivery.
Protective Packing for Safe Delivery
To reduce the risk of damage during transport, parts are packed using customized inserts matched to part geometry and protection needs, together with durable 5-layer corrugated cartons. This packaging approach helps keep parts secure during handling, storage, and international shipment.
Quality Assurance from Inspection to Shipment
At JIZAO, quality is controlled from engineering review to final shipment. Parts are inspected against drawing requirements before delivery, and inspection reports can be provided upon request. For safer transit, we use customized inserts and 5-layer corrugated cartons.
Vacuum Casting FAQs
1. What tolerances can your vacuum casting service achieve?
Vacuum cast parts generally follow ISO 2768-CL standards. Local tolerances can reach ±0.15 mm, and small holes or selected critical features can achieve up to ±0.10 mm precision, depending on part geometry, material, and mold conditions.
2. How fast can vacuum cast parts be delivered?
Lead time depends on part complexity, quantity, and finishing requirements. For eligible simple projects, parts can be completed in as fast as 5 days. The full process typically includes master pattern preparation, silicone mold making, casting, and finishing.
3. Is vacuum casting suitable for prototypes or production parts?
Vacuum casting is well suited for prototype validation, appearance testing, and low-volume production. It is especially useful when customers need production-like plastic parts before investing in hard tooling.
4. How does vacuum casting compare to 3D printing?
Vacuum casting generally provides better surface finish, more consistent appearance, and production-like part replication for low-volume runs. 3D printing is often faster for one-off prototypes, while vacuum casting is usually more suitable when multiple identical parts are needed.
